I want to add background music to a map. But because sound files will take long to load with the limited transfer speed from the server I'd like to offer that music as a separate download. What will happen if a soundfile is called but it doesn't exist?
Also can there be different sounds for different area's in the map? I saw the env_sound but how can I specify the area in which the sound is played?
what will happen when the sound file doesn't exist: maybe you'll receive an error message in the console (failed to load bla bla bla) but the map should work without it.
music in area only:
just do NOT check the "play everywhere" checkbox. however you can't select the size for the area (it's always about 1-2 screens large).
Use a format convertor if you want to add great music/sounds to your maps. But the file size may be doubled sometimes.
So.. if you know a program that reduces sound files' size link it please.

Is there no way to get midi files playing in cs2d? I can find really good ogg files but they are too big. When I tried to join I got stuck at loading the server data. There's no good free loops that I can find that are not midi and don't cost 20 dollars.
Whats the point of doing that xD. To increase the filesize a hundred times? I don't want to use midi for the excellent sound qualite (lol) but because it's small, free and it loops nicely.
To convert midi to wav, try burning the midi to an empty CD with windows media player. Then, you rip it back on your computer using the rip option. BUT before that, you need to find the format option and click on WAV. ALSO, i need help fitting in a sound file for BGM on my map. When i try to do it it says ERROR failed to load sound. yes, its a wav file AND its in the SFX folder. I think its too big cause its 4 minutes long...:(
Hey, I did it and it works just fine! just use a USB then, and delete it afterward. Or just use a 5 cent CD. I have a whole stack of em'. I do it that way cause I want to save my memory space and use my endless supply of CD's.
ALSO how can you make BGM louder in-game? The volume is already 1.0
