Surprise! The new website is here! It's basically the same as before yet completely different.

Key Changes
New design: Lightweight, responsive and dark by default
Respecting EU laws (GDPR) by not sending any data to third parties without user consent
Pages which don't use the database will now work even if the database is broken for whatever reason (you will be logged out though)

What do you think?
If you run into problems or have ideas for improvements please let me know (the forum is the best place to do so)!
I changed a lot and tried to test all features but it's still very likely that I broke a few things.

Oh wow, well this feels weird. Never thought the redesign would actually happen. As far as immediate feedback goes, I think I'd prefer the reply box to be below the thread, with all posts visible above by default, maybe.

Also minor issue I noticed: Hovering over recent post links shows an empty tool tip. Works for file archive uploads, though.

Edit: Apparently for Idiot users the website doesn't load properly, only showing the Idiot Status message box and new friend requests. No captcha field anywhere either.

Wow, amazing stuff, I love the look and feel of the new site!

It's probably coincidence, but I swear I am gone for over a year from this site and I just happen to come back on the day it was updated

Anyhow, awesome work!

I ofcourse read the FAQ and understand that you don't want to bring back the old website design.
I was wondering if it's possible to implement the ability to choose between the old and new design.
Some forums give you the freedom to decide for yourself what design you like.

Would be a great compromise for everyone.

At first glance I thought I was forwarded to a phishing website acting like it was unrealsoftware. That's how much I was used to the old design.

It's also not possible to find users with the user: command while editing a post, although you see different posts below. The popup window won't show any names related to the topic.

The mobile design is very handy and intuitive. I'll give you that. √

I will miss the old one lol, but this is giving me a feeling that stranded III is coming VERY soon, right guys?

EDIT : If we were to create an online chat platform similar to Discord, I mean, it would be better to say "Someone is typing."

Another bit of feedback, considering the forum and file archive are the meat and potatoes of this site, it feels weird that on the portal home page you have to scroll down a bit to get to them, whereas before they were immediately at the top, clearly visible. I think it would be better to have the forum and file archive boxes on the top right side, similar to how it was before. The news section can still take up most of the left side and center.

Generally for a desktop layout, it feels like the website doesn't use the horizontal space too much. Allows you to zoom in better for bigger text, I guess.

I had a bit of that feeling when I first saw the new design, my first reaction was "Did he remove the forum?" - I think a much simpler solution would be to cut off the news at 5-6 lines and make it expandable. That way the forum and file archive are visible at first sight on desktop and most portrait mobile screens.
That would also allow a consistent look of the index page no matter how long the news is.

I also used to just press the Unrealsoftware Logo and get back to the portal with ease. Now it's an extra step with a potential missclick. At least for mobile users.

True, the old Unreal Software logo button was nice and big, now you have to hover over the tiny favicon and click Portal which isn't as convenient.

We have to take into account that @user DC is getting older aswell. Means elderly people won't have an issue to read while contributing to great topics like "what is your favourite shit colour?"

Thanks for the feedback so far (wow, I didn't except so much feedback in such a short time!). It will probably take some days or weeks to get rid of the bugs and problems but I'm sure the new site will be better than the old one in the end. I'll look into all problems and suggestions you mentioned ASAP.

√ Hovering posts not working is fixed already

Hi, I don't have much feedback, but this just gives me a "mobile" feel.
This feels like loading YouTube mobile on desktop and I'm not a huge fan.
Might get used to it but for wider screens it feels off.

The first time I loaded it I thought my internet was slow to load the website and just kept trying new tabs to see if it fixes itself.
The colours don't give me the Unreal Software kinda vibe since the green used is too bright as compared to the old theme and style.

It's a step in the right direction, but I don't like the way it looks.
Do we still have the pink theme?

issues several people mentioned:

Narrow page: I decided to do this because research has shown that text is much easier to read when there aren't that many chars per row. If you look at other pages (e.g. X or Facebook) you'll notice that their content has about the same width. They just put more stuff on the sides (which is something I may also add in future). It's better once you got used to it. Trust me

Portal: I'm kind of unhappy with that layout as well. Long news make it annoying. I like the idea of only showing only a few news lines so the forum/file part is visible without scrolling. I may also completely hide that animated "Unreal Software" section when a user is logged in.

Clickable us : It's a problem unfortunately because it won't work on mobile as there's no hover state. Maybe I find a way to make it open the portal but only on desktop.

@user Hador:
Screenshot bug in file cs2d Hador's complete Weaponpack - final version : Fixed. Was caused by the ' in the file name.

Not sure which search function exactly you are talking about. All previous search features should be still there. Search is under Com > Search / F.AQ. - you have to enable the Google search though. Also when you're in a forum you can filter by thread title. Did I miss something that was possible in the previous version of the website?

@user Chingy: In the settings you can choose "Mr. Brightside" as style which is closest to the old one from the colors but of course also using the new layout. I may add a retro style later but it will be tough to make it look exactly like the old one.

Yep, user auto complete is not working correctly. I'm on it!

@user Bowlinghead:
Nav buttons: us and the profile button are not clickable. The main reason for this is mobile where clicking is required to open the menu. Will try to improve that (as explained above).

Nav bar empty: That's also because of mobile. I could make it switch on Desktop though. Probably a good idea!

Users emptyness: Mobile again. Didn't bother to make two versions. May change that in future.

Inline code: I totally missed that. Will fix!

Code tags in tag description: You're right. They are just all in one table row. I should probably split that into one row per tag to make it more readable.

Mr. Brightside issues: Thanks for reporting these! It's kind of hard to find all issues with different styles. Will fix them soon.

@user Mami Tomoe: I had to go for a brighter green for the dark style. You can go to settings (footer) and switch to "Mr. Brightside" if you prefer a brighter style that looks more like the old one (the navigation is still dark on that one though). A pink style and some others are also available but they only change the main color.
