im christian and i beleive in god creating the universe and then the evolution stuff happened. but who creted god? he cant just appear and want a planet.

this also makes me think that space doesnt go on forever.

That's just stupid, God is classified as a spirit, nobody can "make" a spirit.

Don't call other peoples beliefs stupid. Even if you don't agree with them, don't call someone else stupid for it. I personally have to ask though, UnIdEnTiFiEd, you believe that someone could have possibly created God? That would go against (although I'm not saying it is impossible) many things found in the bible. Examples include the many descriptions he gives himself. I'm not saying that it ISN'T POSSIBLE, but I'm doubting it's probability, seeing as it isn't mentioned at all.

Actually it is a tiny bit stupid, imho. But I must add that I agree with FlooD a lot. Our existence is beyond human understanding. I mean, we can't say the Big Bang theory is correct, because they think it is 'Dark Matter' that formed everything, but we actually cannot say this is true because we weren't there when the universe was created. And if you ask me, Science and Religion aren't serperate things because many religous books have mathematical and scientific facts in them, that are actually 100% true! Topic is too complex for the human mind to handle.

Dannydeth has a point.

We were created thanks to a dying star. It exploded and made matter to create us.

Earth was a moon once, it crashed into another moon, bearly survived. Then a star died near it. Made the matter to create us and gave earth life.

Thats what i get by watching discovery channel

We humans live in to much of a confined little world to ever fully understand the complete extensions of life and the universe. That's what I meant.

discovery channel (+most of television) is full of bullshit. they only mention the shocking and surprising shit, from which people extrapolate absurd conclusions such as those u wrote above.

I don't know how he roped me into that, I believe in Creationism and dislike the fact that people think that we evolved like pokemon

EDIT: @Yates:
There shouldn't be any 10 year olds in this site! There is a little click box which you click to confirm that you are over the age of 13, lol.

2. noobs
3. they don't listen, they think they are allways right..

Evolution. Why?

Because in my opinion, a "God" (or any other creature or instance of cosmic power) is not actually placeable. Everything started with the big bang, nothing before that was there and if the human strain had to evolve that extremly long, a creature/instance of cosmic power would have to evolve in a matter of... let's say a million years. And I cannot believe in something that is "done" since quintillion years without sending something as a of it's existance to us. I believe in Karma, yes, but I can not believe in something done for quintillion years but never with the slightest proof of its existance.

that's begging the question

you assume that "God" could only be created through evolution and use that to argue that everything is created through evolution...

So in other words, you cross creationism with evolution. Science meets with religion again in that sentence.
And the big bang theory? I don't think it's true.
people say that the universe began when a massive block of junk exploded due to hydrogen atom explosions (or something similar to that) in space about one billion years ago, since they can't really put an estimation on the date of the big bang thoery. So..
How did that giant block get there in space in the first place?

Yeah. Big bang doesn't even make sense to me. As ironic and slightly humorous as it is, it takes more faith to believe that everything came from a block of random things then it does to believe that God created it all.

im not referring to anyone but...

i feel that some people trust science even though they dont understand. often theories are taken for granted, especially with the media's distorted portrayal of modern science.

example: often i hear people say that "evolution claims that humans evolved from monkeys," which is total bullshit, since evolutionary theory merely claims that humans and monkeys share a common ancestor.

i think people's distorted knowledge of science is what caused this pointless "evolution vs creationism" debate.

in science, the validity of a theory is NOT determined by whether it is true; rather it is experimental data that serves to validate a theory. a scientist would say, "it doesnt matter whether it's right or wrong; as long as the theory fits my data, ill use that theory." in contrast someone religious would not care about "data," but only whether something is true. so for example there could be this religious scientist who, due to his religion, believes that 1+1=3 BUT when working in his lab he uses 1+1=2 since it fits better with his data.

some people dont understand this about science and think that all valid scientific theory is 100% correct. and when these theories dont fit perfectly with religion, the debate occurs, leading people to illogical conclusions such as "science disproves religion." in a way, this "science" is becoming a religion, and the debate becomes "the religion of distorted science vs traditional religion."

as for "evolution vs creationism," i find the stupidity of this debate to be even greater than that of "science vs religion."
an analogy:
yesterday my mom made chicken by placing a chicken in a pot over a fire.
now someone asks: WTF HOW DID THIS COOKED CHICKEN GET MADE??
"creationism" answer: oh my mom made it yesterday.
"evolution" answer: oh the heat in the pot changed the chicken over a period of time.
now why would there be a debate???

a summary of my criticism:
1. "science vs religion" is intrinsically pointless because the two have totally different goals. however people often misunderstand the goals of science and view science as somewhat of a religion, thus leading to this debate.
2. "evolution" is about "how"; "creationism" is about "what and who."

Actually, FlooD, the reason that I started this thread was a mere experiment to see what different people thought and to see if we could generate a debate over the matter. Not a debate that leads to immature squabbling, but a debate that we will never be able to solve until "the world ends" (which will mean different things to different people).

As for this, it is a tricky one. Anyone who follows a religion obviously believes that there religion is true, otherwise they wouldn't follow it. With that said, every religion (that I know of) has aspects that directly reflect scientific data. Some of these sciences may consist of things that we as humans cannot understand, but they do still exist. As an example, in Buddhism it is believed that we are all illusions and that we need to realize that and let go of this world. To someone looking from the outside, it doesn't seem "scientifically possible", but the Buddhists see it differently, as a form of science that people don't understand. Another example is, in creationism, when God created the world. It is not true to say that the idea isn't scientifically possible, because science itself is the study of the way the world works. Note: the STUDY of how it works. It isn't yet perfect (and likely won't ever be). We as humans can't comprehend how God created the world, because we don't know how it works scientifically. It is all dependent on your point of view. Religion is science, we just don't know the science yet.

Science is beginning a new religion? How can it, Science is the study of the world and our Universe, there actually shouldn't be a debate between religion and science because they both are doing the same thing; explaining everything around us! And why would so many religions exisist if* it was false? Every country in the world has a religion that someone in it follows. And if you look at all the religous books of all religions, you will see they all follow basic rules which they share among eachother, surely then, there must be a creator!
