Ben Breedlove was an 18 years old teenager who had suffered from a muscle heart disease.

On December 18, 2011 he released a video on YouTube, talking via note cards and he described how he had managed to cheat death 3 times. After 1 week, on December 25 (Christmas), 2011, he died of cardiac arrest.

Here is the first part:

I find his story sad, but beautiful at the same time. Despite his heart problems, he had a great heart.

Each day, about 150,000 people die.

Each of these persons have their personal stories, but practically none of them will still be remembered in a few centuries. I can't see anything special about this person.

Yeah cool, a story of a person with heart problems. It doesn't make him special because there are more out there having the same problem that he does. So his still the same as one of those other people with heart problems.

Good day.

So what? On Christmas day, 150,000 people die just as on any other day of the year. Also, descriptions of perceptions while in the state of unconsciousness are very common, and this is understandable as consciousness isn't strictly a yes-or-no thing. You can't shut off a brain completely (without killing it), it'll still do some more or less sensible stuff, and hallucinations are nothing uncommon.

It is your opinion and I respect it, but if you judge it from the Christian's point of view you can understand why a lot of people consider this story to be "special".

It's true that every day a lot of people die, each one of them has his own story, that can trigger different feelings in our soul, and Ben's story surely did.

This doesn't mean I have to respect their point of view. Mind you, respect goes to persons, not necessarily opinions. In my opinion, this "Christian point of view" is just bullshit. As for emotions, many things can trigger "positive" and/or "negative" emotions in us, for example movies, although they are pure fiction or at least mostly fiction, at least most of them.

I consider that it goes to both. By respecting an opinion even though you consider it invalid, you automatically respect the person.

Again, not necessarily. I can respect an opinion, but I can have utmost disrespect and hatred/disgust for the person.

But respecting a person doesn't mean you have to respect all of their opinions.

hmm it seems he would have been under medical care--how did he manage to make that video?

@Tau: You might not find it "special" but you have to admit it's pretty sad.
